I was one of the lucky ones in high school.  My counselor was awesome. Back then, the system was set up that we had the same one throughout our high school years.  Not everyone was as lucky, so I am thrilled to finally be able to introduce a resource that Dormbuys has been trying to bring on-board for a while now.  We’ve always wanted to be more than just a place to buy stuff.  We wanted to be a resource to students, parents and anyone else trying to navigate that crazy maze called college.  Today, we take one step closer to accomplishing that.

Damien Sweeney joins the Dormbuys team as our Counselor to the World. Yes…he is my brother and I couldn’t be more pumped to have him working with us.  He has been a teacher for the last four years and now is a counselor at Louisville Male High School.

So why am I so pumped?  Nope…It’s not because he’s family (even though I like that too).  It all goes back to the “he gets it” thing.  I love talking to him about his work with students and their families because he is so insanely passionate about it. He is the guy that works with the person that all the other teachers gave up on.  He is the guy who spends time bringing people from all different backgrounds and showing them that they aren’t that different.  He teaches in the classroom that uses hip-hop music and YouTube videos to teach English.  I could go on, but just trust me…the guy “gets it”.
